Getting Started

  • Do I need any experience to start Krav Maga?

None at all. Most of our students walk in with zero martial arts background. Our classes are designed to take complete beginners and build skills progressively. You don't need to "get in shape first" either—that happens as you train.

  • What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable athletic clothing—t-shirt, shorts or athletic pants, and clean athletic shoes. Nothing fancy required. We train in regular workout gear, not uniforms. Bring water and a towel.

  • What happens in a typical class?

Classes run about an hour. We start with a warm-up, then move into technique instruction where you'll learn and drill specific skills. The second half usually involves partner drills and scenario-based training. You'll work hard, but everything is scalable to your fitness level.

  • Will I get hurt?

We train smart. You'll work with partners and there's contact involved, but safety is the priority. Minor bumps and bruises happen occasionally—it's a martial art—but injuries are rare. We're not trying to beat each other up. We're trying to learn.

  • How do I sign up for a free trial class?

Just head to our schedule page, pick a class that works for you, and sign up. No pressure, no commitment. Come see if it's the right fit. You can request a call back from a team member on any of our pages, including this one.

About Krav Maga

  • What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a self-defense system developed for the Israeli military. It's designed for real-world situations—not competition or sport. The focus is on practical techniques that work regardless of your size or strength, with an emphasis on awareness, de-escalation, and getting home safe.

  • Is Krav Maga effective for self-defense?

It's specifically designed for it. Unlike sport martial arts that train you to win matches under rules, Krav Maga trains you for situations with no rules—multiple attackers, weapons, ambushes, confined spaces. The techniques are built around natural reactions and gross motor movements that work under stress.

  • How is Krav Maga different from karate, BJJ, or MMA?

Karate and traditional martial arts often focus on forms, tradition, and point-based sparring. BJJ specializes in ground fighting for one-on-one situations. MMA combines disciplines for cage competition. Krav Maga doesn't have competitions—it's purely self-defense focused, addressing scenarios the others don't: weapons, multiple attackers, and how to escape rather than engage.

  • Do you use belts or ranks?

Yes. We have a belt ranking system for both kids and adults that tracks your progression through the curriculum. Belts provide structure and goals, and testing gives you a chance to demonstrate what you've learned. That said, the real measure of progress is your ability to apply skills under pressure—the belt reflects that growth.

Kid's Program

  • What age can kids start Krav Maga?

We accept kids starting at age 4. The classes are age-appropriate—younger kids focus more on coordination, awareness, and confidence-building, while older kids and teens learn more technical self-defense applications. Regardless of the age, the training is centered around fun!

  • Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

The opposite, actually. Kids who are confident in their abilities are less likely to act out or start conflicts. We explicitly teach when to use techniques (almost never) and when not to (almost always). Most of our training focuses on awareness, de-escalation, and walking away—physical response is the last resort.

  • Does your kids program address bullying?

It's a core focus. We teach verbal responses, confident body language, de-escalation strategies, and when necessary, physical techniques to create space and get to safety. Most kids who train with us never have to use physical skills—the confidence shift alone often stops the bullying.

  • Can I watch my child's class?

Absolutely. Parents are welcome and encouraged to observe their child's classes. We have a viewing area, and we think it's valuable for you to see what your child is learning. It also creates another level of bonding between you and your child. They look to you for guidance and support and being able to actively applaud them and talk about what you watched in class on the way home helps their training and your relationship.

Women's Self Defense

  • Do you have classes specifically for women?

Yes. Our women's self-defense program addresses scenarios women are statistically more likely to face—parking lot safety, escape from grabs and holds, ground defense, and awareness in social situations. The class is women-only, taught by experienced female instructors.

  • I've never thrown a punch. Can I still do this?

That's exactly who this is for. We assume no prior experience. You'll learn everything from the ground up in a supportive environment. Most women in the class started exactly where you are.
